Dorothy Evans, 81, of Park Crescent, Abergavenny, south Wales is facing the prospect of Christmas behind bars after a judge issued a warrant for her arrest. She’s been indicted for harassment and six charges of breaching her Asbo.
The plea and case management hearing had already been adjourned twice since last Friday due to her failure to attend court. As her advocate, Bernard Powell expressed her inability to come because of her frequent chest pains.
However, when Mr. Powell carried out the checks, he said, ‘the hospital can’t seem to find a trace of her having attended various departments. We are told it is unlikely that she is there.’
Phillip Morris, indicting her said,
‘this is in fact the third time Mrs. Evans had the opportunity to attend. It seems she may have been at the hospital (on the previous two occasions) but wasn’t, indeed, this morning.’
Defending her client, Mr. Powell said,
‘All I can do is invite you to bear in mind her age and history of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolisms, which may be exacerbated by her being in a cell.’
Evans case is schedule to be held after Christmas breaks.
