women-in-china_50China like India has a stereotypical patriarchal society where boys are preferred over girls.

Consequent upon which, recently, more than 70% of female undergraduates have experienced discrimination based on their gender as they struggle to available job in the competitive employment market.

Figuratively, female undergraduates account for about half of 4.95 million graduates in 2006. Also, the demand for undergraduates is austere as only 1.16 million are expected to join the work force, a 22% decline over the past year.

It has been postulated that women are likely to suffer discrimination more in the state organs, institutions and state-controlled enterprises.

In a country that calls for equality between the sexes, many bosses cite factors such as pregnancy, women being unable to take business trips alone due to safety concerns and the business climate that encourages drinking with bosses and clients after work hours that may not be appropriate for women contribute to their disadvantages when searching for jobs, because of which, male students gain an upper hand in job hunt.
