A small town police Chief Chris Abril, won the campaign for the post of sheriff regardless of being indicted with raping two young girls nearly 20 years ago.

The 45-year-old Democrat, who took the oath of office with his wife and two sons at his side, turned down a plea bargain offered by prosecutors and said he preferred to fight the charges of statutory rape and sexual offense.

He would get termination from the office incase he would be proved guilty at the next hearing which is scheduled to be held on fourth of January.

However, Abril shuns off the charges by personifying them as a part of political issue initiated by GOP rivals.
