The issues faced by women while the New York Times examined attempting to breast-feed at work on Friday.
Times reported that, for well-paid professional women, breast-feeding is a “matter of choice,” but for lower-income women, breast-feeding is next to impossible and at times a situation arises when these women have to stop breast-feeding earlier or to decline to breast-feed at all.
Times further stated that health authorities ‘alarmed at the gap between the breast-feeding haves and have-nots,’ are starting a campaign to convince businesses that supporting breast-feeding is a ’sound investment’. In addition, an upcoming campaign, ‘The Business Case for Breastfeeding’ is being started by it. It plans to emphasize findings that breast-feeding lowers a company health plan’s pediatrician bills and absenteeism among employees.
