Dakar: Women protests in White

Huge number of Senegalese women all clad in white rallied in the wake of violence against women in the West African country. Representative for the Alliance for a New Citizenship (ANC), a coalition of Senegalese associations defending women’s rights Latyr Camara said, ‘ We have asked all women to dress today partially or entirely in white because white is the color of mourning in traditional (west) Africa, in a show of protest against violence toward women’. Camara asserted that the event was launched by ANC in commemoration to a woman who was assaulted to death by her husband, who later discarded her body in a septic tank in Touba, east of Dakar.
