Women really have a harsh life in South Africa, they are susceptible to various atrocities specifically those who are engaged in petty trading or major market promoting foodstuffs and household effects.
They not only have incurred losses in business because of robbery and fraud but have also been subjected to sexual harassment.
Of late, a number of market women at the Agbogbloshie Market in Accra have undergone a number of forms of sexual abuse and men have gone to the extent of raping the native women.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly came forward to look into the matter. But when the Public Agenda was about to visit the place, police hushed the traders from their occupied place.
A number of of the women asserted that they had come from other cities and towns such as Kumasi, Akyem Oda, Nsawam and Wenchi to sell their goods.
A woman reported to have been raped by men while she was sleeping on the floors of the market.
The Electricity Company of Ghana had disconnected all the lights in the place, which has lead to mounting cases of such crimes. The men, both adults and children take advantage of the situation and commit all kinds of abuses.
