In a conference under the collaboration of various women’s bodies led by Sthree Vedi, a renowned activist Rooth Manorama, said,
‘Though Kerala boasts of a high literacy rate, the atrocities against women also are on the rise in the state. Sex rackets and other dubious gangs thrive in the state as it happen any other illiterate state and are free to continue their sexual harassment against women’.
Referring to the women of down trodden sections, she said that they become the victim of these anti social beings and this is widely prevalent in other regions as well. For instance,
‘here they were shot and killed during the land struggle while in various other North Indian states they were shot by the state machinery when they refused to budge to the machinations of mining mafia’.
If the tribal women ask justice, they are terribly humiliated. So Manorama, says that a web of like mindedness people will have to come forward to put an end to this menace.
