India: MHIP demands for the ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005′ in the state

Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP), the highest Mizo women body, has insisted the Mizoram government to bring in the ‘Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005′ in the state. With the rising cases of rapes and physical attack on minors, Sangkhumi, president of MHIP has said, ‘Many cases of domestic violence had been reported in the state. However, due to inadequate legal provision, the accused persons were being set free. The recent Parliamentary Act should also be introduced here. There has been no surveys on domestic violence but going by the police cases and other cases, which have gone unrecorded, instances of domestic violence cannot be ruled out.’
