India: Notices issued to prevent acid attacks on women in Karnataka

In accordance with a petition, ‘Campaign and struggle against acid attacks on women’ filed by an NGO, Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Mr. Justice K Bhaktavatsala issued notices to the chiefs of various Government departments urging them to take actions for the prevention, relief and rehabilitation of women victims of acid attacks. The petitioner stated that women are being victimized to acid attacks, which is showing an increasing trend in the region. Unfortunately, the victims are not taken care of and no steps have been taken so far to prevent such occurrences.
