As we are still hankering for women’s reservation bill, recent statistics postulates that India does not fare as good as its neighbors in South Asia in women’s representation in the national legislatures especially with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
According to Renuka Chowdhury, Minister of State for Women and Child Development, India guarantees 8.3% of seats for women in Lok Sabha while Pakistan’s National Assembly has 21.3 per cent women.
In addition, Bangladesh and Maldives have 15.1% and 12% women respectively in their legislatures.
