We all know that Rural and poor women are the ones who suffer most in their personal and professional lives that is mainly farming. Rural women represent world’s one forth of total population. Among these hardworking women, many are celebrating World Rural Women’s Day today but millions are still ignorant about this day.
During the 4th UN World Conference on Women in Beijing 1995, World Rural Women’s Day was launched by several international NGOs to recognize the achievements of rural woman. Yes! Despite being launched almost a decade back with nine million members all over the world, World Rural Women’s Day is not as popular as International women’s day is.
But the trend to celebrate it as festival is picking up in different parts of the world. The Rural women with little or no status play a major role in ensuring food security for urban areas of the world.
This day has been meant to remind the so called hi-fi society how much rural women contribute towards society. Happy World Rural Women’s Day!
