TEENAGE cyclist Marie Stuart has just one thought in mind as she puts her head down and faces the long, open road - the London Olympics 2012.
Marie, 16, is already a top mountain bikers and road-racing cyclists in her age group nationally. She has even ’sacrificed’ her night outs with friends.
Marie is currently ranked number three in Britain for mountain biking and she is in the top 10 road racers at U19 level.
This year the national mountain bike series has been Marie’s main focus. She was fourth in the first round - a knee injury and cold didn’t help her performance - then she registered a second place followed by another runner-up spot recently at Plymouth in the junior women’s class.
This winter she plans to supplement her training with cyclo-cross and that means more traveling to events in Southampton, Ipswich, Birmingham and Wales.
