melanoma

Last week through a statistical report, it came into light that native women of New Zealand are prone to attack by melanoma, a type of skin cancer.

Ms. Wendy Billingsley, spokesperson of SunSmart said that roundabout 60,000 deaths worldwide are caused by the excessive exposure to UVR, which results in the skin cancer. As compared to women of other nations, women of New Zealand are targeted more by the problem.

Ms Billingsley
further stated that her results coincide with that of WHO. This asserts that UVR causes skin cancer.

The other types of diseases caused by UVR are cutaneous malignant melanomas, and non-melanoma skin cancers developing in different cell layers of the skin.

In order to combat the situation, the SunSmart partnership of HSC and the Cancer Society has come up with few tips that can help the people to protect themselves from cropping up of the cancer. They are:

1. Restrict your exposure in sun.

2. Look for shade when the rays are maximum.

3. You may avoid the rays by hats and sunglasses.

4. Try to apply sunscreen of sun protection factor 30+ before moving out in sun.

5. Do not use sunlamps; it has been banned by WHO too.

6. Do take sun safety practices when UV index level is six and above.

7. Protect children from sun.
