Very often Sen. Barack Obama messages about the equality of women in African nations both as a matter of human rights and of economic developments. Same point he has made with both a Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai and the Kenyan equivalent of a Girl Scout.
During his and his family’s stay in Kenya, he along with Maathai planted an African olive tree, also called a “mutamaiyu” in an important Nairobi park. Obama’s wife and daughters planted a Kenya green heart, or “muthiga.”
He also visited the Standard newspaper that was ransacked in March by government agents.

She served in Iraq for a year but decided she won’t return and went AWOL. Not only did she feel the war lacked purpose, Swift said her superiors repeatedly sexually harassed her while serving in Iraq.
