A famous line goes, life is beautiful provided you accept it as it comes to you but unfortunately, this line holds no importance to the women folk in Afghanistan.
Recently, a case has come up where a 13-year-old girl has tried to burn herself in order to break away from the life’s difficulties.
Afghanistan is full of such cases where the women prefer self-immolation coz they know that it’s useless to stand up for ones right or justice.
Keeping these things in focus, a three-day conference is being held in Kabul where countries like Bangladesh, India, Iran and Uzbekistan are also participating. The purpose of which is to comprehend and tackle the concerned issue of self-immolation.
The Muslim families in the name of Islam often eclipse the cause of such a drastic step taken by their women or at times, name it to some ‘psychological problem’.
Homayoon Azizi, the head of the burns unit at the public hospital in Afghanistan points out that illiteracy is the cause of such disturbing trend. He says,
‘When men and women are illiterate, they cannot think widely and because they cannot solve their problems, they decide to burn themselves or husbands decide to burn the women’.
