Darfur’s horrendous conflict has made the region venerable for the women folk. They feel unprotected in the camps as well. Statistically, for the past two weeks, around 21 women and girls are being victimized in the camp itself.
Lately Hawa, a victim herself has described her wretched condition to Karen Allen, a BBC reporter.
She has accused government backed Arab militias or Janjaweed and the rebel groups in the entire scenario.
Not only in Darfur, but similar settings could be seen in Kutum as well where the people are experiencing nothing but desolation.
Though African Union troops are giving some reassurance to people by showing their presence but it’s not an easy job for them as well. As one of the soldier pointed out,
‘It’s like trying to monitor the peace with one hand tied behind your back’.
