In the northeastern province of Khon Kaen, Thailand, a Regional Workshop on Gender Sensitive and Coordinated Violence against Women (VAW) Services is being held from 28th to 30 of this month.
The workshop is being organised by ASEAN where participants from 10 nations have put forward their grievances on domestic violence and ways to encourage equality.
Dr Thipwadee Bampenboon, advisor to the Public Health Minister, asserted that domestic violence is a ubiquitous phenomenon, which is also negatively affecting public health.
She further added that one in five women is subjected to harassment and 20 became rape victims every 15 minutes.
Thus, the government to combat this menace has initiated One Stop Crisis Centres (OSCCs) to help women and children who have suffered from domestic violence.
According to her, every provincial hospital and 104 community hospitals would be having this provision.
