Lately, United Nations report the UN Mission in Liberia’s (UNMIL) fifth on human rights has stated that due to the indigent judicial system of Liberia, women and children are suffering from sexual violence.

The information for the survey was extricated from 25 UNMIL human rights monitors stationed in all Liberia’s 15 counties. Its focus was on the challenges faced by the judicial system since the country has re-established itself after 14 years of conflict.

As Chief of the Human Rights and Protection Section, Dorota Gierycz says,

‘Circuit Courts in five counties were not operational during the May Term of Court, resulting in violations of the Constitutional and the human rights of both victims and suspects’.
