vaccineMargaret Heffernan, a health advocate has warned women about Gardasil, a new vaccine against cervical cancer.



She says that there has not been enough community education about the $450 Gardasil vaccine. In addition to it, women need to realize that it only protects against 70 per cent of cervical cancers. Therefore, the women should be regular with their pap smears.



It’s available in three injections over six months and costs round about $450. May be, out of the reach of few women.



Ms Heffernan
says until the Federal Government makes the vaccinations freely available, regular pap smears are still the best way to prevent cervical cancer.
