Zimbabwe: women appeal for curb on domestic violence

Director of Girl Child Network, an organization that is supporting and fighting for girls from domestic violence, Betty Makoni, said that the culprits who go in for domestic violence easily escapes from the clutches of law. Thus, the women’s groups have urged the government to look into the matter and to enforce the act of the Domestic Violence Bill into a law. Though Zimbabwe has experienced inflation of more than 1000 percent in spite of food, fuel and foreign exchange shortages, it also needs to look into legal protection. Some women are of the view that because of the contemporary crises, men have become frustrated and so they vent their anger to venerable sections of society, that is, women and children. In accordance to the bill, domestic violence includes physical, sexual, emotional, verbal and psychological abuse and it comes under criminal offence.
