The Equal Opportunities Commission, Britain, states that the Muslim girls are emerging victorious in school level but are lagging behind at workplace because of the gender discrimination. Illustrating further, it reported that the girls of Pakistani and Bangladeshi origin are scoring higher grades than their counterparts. Even from the low family income, they are catching up the white girls. However, the irony of the situation is that, on the work place, they are not given the credit and they receive fewer salaries as compared to their male counterpart.

The University of Southern California has postulated a report, according to which, women in their 60′s are at a higher risk of heart disease than their male counterpart but women in their middle ages are at a lower risk of cardiac problems relatively. According to Eileen Crimmins, corresponding author and professor in USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, the chances of men with high level of blood pressure and cholesterol have considerably decreased in U.S ‘over 60 years of age’. The study further illustrated that women have relatively increased the risk of high blood pressure. Moreover, the effectiveness of hypertension medicines was higher in men as compared to women. The study also put forward the idea that those women who perform some amount of physical work are less prone to cardiac problems than those who do not work at all.

Recent study done on late teens by the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) available in the September 2006 issue of the journal Intelligence gave a very startling response. It says that men have a 4 to 5-point IQ advantage over women by adulthood. The study is based on SAT scores that are directly proportional to IQ, it parallels the previous research, according to which men’s I.Q level is higher than women by 3.3 to 5 points. It also concluded that some g- factor or general factor of mental ability underlines both the SAT Verbal (SAT-V) and the SAT Mathematics (SAT-M) scales with the similarity between these components greater than 0.90. In addition, the g factor predicted student grades better than the conventionally used SAT-V and SAT-M scales.

In order to project her nation, Pakistan as a modern country, she actually kindled spark in there. Moten, a Pakistani born girl now living in Houston, took part in bikini competition, which was held in China. For being the most photographed and interviewed contestant, she won the title of ‘Best in Media’. In her interview with the Times of India, she said that she has broken the barriers and that she hopes that girls from Pakistan too will follow her footsteps. Also that her aim was to project that Pakistan as a modern nation. Unfortunately, the Pakistani authorities did not take up her gesture cordially, they said that they may take up the matter with China, and may withdraw from Moten privileges open to people of Pakistani descent such as visa-free move to Pakistan.

India, a country where people have such weird ideas (sorry for using the word but I can’t stop myself applying it in here), so as I was saying, India a place where people are living in 21st century but still believing in superstitions. Not only the illiterate ones but also the so-called educated people come under its category. Recently, there was this issue of sugary water making the headlines and before that, the matter of idols drinking milk was at the fore. Now as expected, we have another topic coming up and this one is from Rajasthan. These days the native women of Rajasthan are busy tying wristband to any five married women and after that performing the same thing with the idol of Goddess Parvati. The logic given by them is that the deed will protect their husband. Most of the women are of the view that if it won’t protect them, it won’t do any harm either. Hmmm…

Ghazi Algosaibi, Labour Minister of Saudi Arabia has pointed out that his plan to put women in work place won’t take a back seat in spite of the rigid resistance from clerics and businessmen. On Sunday,AL Ikhbariya, Saudi television station reported Algosaibi’s views on the issue, according to which, he wanted to put an end to the prevailing ultraconservative rule by giving work to the native women. Until June, next year, the implementation of the rule has been expected by the businesses as well. Consequent upon which, the native women will replace foreign male labour in lingerie stores. Businesspersons are quite stringent on the issue because firstly, this may increase the labor cost and secondly, women working in shops would be considered as against the Islamic law.
